The overall objective of the DRUSHBAMETRICS
("friendship-metrics") Winter Schools on Chemometrics (WSC) is
to provide young(er) scientists and specialists an opportunity to get
acquainted with chemometric multivariate data analysis. This conference is
the third regular event in the Drushbametrics
program. The success of the previous conferences confirm the benefit of
arranging further meetings devoted to developing chemometrics in Russia.
An equally important objective is to facilitate international networking
with colleagues from abroad.
Multivariate data analysis and its many applications - in chemometrics,
technometrics, biometrics, econometrics, environmetrics - is a modern
approach barely 30 years of age.
The background is to find significant and consistent patterns in the
chaotic expressions of experimental and observed data. Data analytical
methods such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Principal Component
Regression (PCR), Partial Least Squares (PLS) provide the possibility to
investigate such data structures in a most effective way.
The basis for the DRUSHBAMETRICS conferences will be lectures given by
invited international and Russian scientists. A special aspect of the
WSC-3 conference is to give all attendees a possibility to present their
works as oral or poster contributions. At the WSC-conferences the
participants may deliver not only the final results but also discuss
preliminary problem statements and methods, all in a strictly unofficial,
friendly atmosphere. The program always provides ample time for
discussions.
The DRUSHBAMETRICS
conferences are famous for their social program, which not only includes
local interesting cultural attractions and events but which also focuses
especially on scientific networking. The meetings are conducted in an atmosphere
of joint scientific collaboration and friendship. The internationally
famous pub: "Scores and Loadings" will be opened as usually
throughout WSC-3.

Actually, it will be the right-side entrance while walking from Drushba
hotel, which is behind the Center.
-
- Bank and Currency Exchange
- The bank is situated behind Drushba hotel in 10 minutes walk along
the main (Lenin) street. Its name is СБЕРБАНК
(Sberbank). Here you can change euros and dollars. Cash dispenser
machine is also available. Small sums (up to 50 USD) could be
exchanged by the conference manager, Alexey Pomerantsev.
-
- Communications
- Mobile phones are working in Pushkinskiye Gory. You will find
public telephone in the hotel Drushba lobby near the

Sightseeing
The location of the conference is in the
famous memorial place of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin
(1799-1837). Here are many places connected with Pushkin. He lived in
his estate Mikhailovskoe, went to see his friends
in Trigorskoe village and visited his relatives in Petrovskoe
estate Just there he wrote his famous poems being isolated
from the world during cholera quarantine in 1830. Pushkin was buried
in Svyatogorsky monastery that is near hotel 'Drushba'.
Now a grand museum complex
has been established in this place. Visitors will enjoy the
beautiful parks and old-time furnished buildings presenting antiques
and paintings.
Visit
the web site of Pushkin museum
|
-
 |
Skiing and Trips
The surrounding parks and forests
provides an excellent layout for cross-country skiing. Skies can be
rented at in the local tourist center.
Hikes to the Pushkin memorials (10-15 km)
are an appealing alternative to skiing (see the map).
|
-
 |
"Scores and
Loadings"
Traditional meetings in the "Scores
and Loading" pub will be continued at WSC-3. This is the
favourite place to be, where participants relax (both Russian and
international styles).
Talks about science are not forbidden
however
|
-
 |
Conference Banquet
Time for the traditional Conference Banquet
is on February 19. Don't miss out on this occasion! The organizing
committee cannot yet guarantee the availability of this place (picture to the left)
with complete certainty. In the event of substitution, rest assured
that similar elegance and decor will be sought for.
|
-
 |
Accompanying persons program
This region is rich with famous places of
interest. We plan to organize an excursion to the medieval city
Pskov. Similarly to the Isborsk fortress and the Pechory cave
monastery. Each trip will take a whole day. Transportation, guide,
and meals will be provided. We expect rather modest fees for this
program, approx. US$30 for each trip
|
-
 |
St. Petersburg visit
Participants will have an unequalled
opportunity to spend several days in St. Petersburg before or,
perhaps most likely, after the conference. The organizing committee
will assist guests with all aspects of accommodation, theater
tickets, guides, etc. Do not miss this chance to see the great city
in the year of its 301-st anniversary! Ask us as early as possible.
